You probably have heard of a 529 College Savings Plan. It's pretty much what it says it is: a state sponsored savings plan/investment account for college. The account is tax-free as long as you use the money for educational purposes. What I did not know was that you don't necessarily have to be a resident of a state to use its plan, although there might be extra benefits if you are.
